Curriculum – Meteorology

The curriculum leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Meteorology requires 134 hours and is organized into 5 categories: (i) general courses; (ii) introductory courses; (iii) fundamental science courses; (iv) applied science courses; and (v) meteorology technical courses. A brief summary of the program follows.

GENERAL COURSES (34 CREDITS)

The following courses, associated with 34 semester hours of academic credit, are required in the undergraduate curricula in all programs of the VNU.

•   PHI1004: Fundamental Principles of Marxism-Leninism 1

•   PHIi1005: Fundamental Principles of Marxism-Leninism 2

•   POL1001: Ho Chi Minh Ideology

•   HIS1002: The Revolutionary Line of The Communist Party of Vietnam

•   INT1003: Introduction to Informatics 1

•   INT1005: Introduction to Informatics 3

•   FLF2101: General English 1

•   FLF2102: General English 2

•   FLF2103: General English 3

•   Physical Education*

•   National Defense Education*

•   Supplementary Skills*

Note: *These courses are not included in GPA

INTRODUCTORY COURSES (6 CREDITS)

Each student must take 6 credit hours of introductory courses in science. These courses provide the foundation for the study of meteorology.

•   HIS1056: Fundamentals of Vietnamese Culture

•   GEO1050: Earth and Life Sciences  

FUNDAMENTAL SCIENCE COURSES (23 CREDITS)

Each student must take 23 credit hours of fundamental science courses. These courses are an essential part of a bachelor education that allows the student to review and gain understanding in natural science.

•   MAT1092: Calculus 2

•   MAT1101: Statistics and Probability

•   PHY1100: Mechanics-Thermodynamics

•   PHY1103: Electrics-Optics

•   CHE1080: General Chemistry

•   CHE1069: General Chemistry Laboratory

APPLIED SCIENCE COURSES (9 CREDITS)

The role of applied science courses is to give students the broad education and skills necessary for understanding scientific problems and solutions in global and societal context. Each student must take 9 credit hours of applied science courses.

METEOROLOGY COURSES (68 CREDITS)

The Meteorology courses are designed to give each student a broad background in the disciplines of Meteorology and Atmospheric science through the core courses and electives. The core courses are required and provide students the fundamental principles of meteorology and earth systems. The electives allow the student to study a certain subject in great depth. The sum of the meteorology courses must be at least 68.
